Guatemala Medical Trip-Visit to Guatemalan Orphanage

Karen2On Friday we went to an orphanage for abadoned Guatemalan children. The couple who has started this ministry has taken in four babies at this time and they hope to expand. Baby Alex was left on the side of the road in the rain. He was a month old and was slow to develop speech. He is 14 months old and thriving. Baby Juan David was taken from his home because his mom was a drunk. Juan David was born with fetal alcohol syndrome. He is slow to develop, neurologically slow and has no verbal communication. Baby Weezer was left in a trash can in an open plastic bag. He is fearful and anxious and neurologically slow. Baby Daniel is 7 months old. He was born in the hospital and his mother stepped out and never came back. These are four lucky ones. There are over 370,000 orphaned babies in Guatemala. International adoptions are closed. This fine couple has built an orphanage to care for up to 10 babies. Sad but inspiring to see a couple devote their home to orphaned children.
