Guatemala Medical Trip – God Loves Guatemala

Mercy17 people set out to do God’s will in Guatemala. We were united by love, motivated by passion and fervent in pursuing God’s purpose. The Spirit of the Lord was upon us according to Isaiah 61:1-4. He sent us to heal the brokenhearted and proclaim liberty to the captives. We were sent to comfort those who mourn and give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning and the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. We were sent by God to rebuild old ruins and repair the desolation of many generations and indeed, by His grace, we did.

As we all reflect on all God did we did in Guatemala, the facts are that we were able to dispense medications to over 2500 people! We held 5 clinics and were able to give out over 15,000 children’s vitamins, treat over 350 children in a lice clinic and prayed for a woman to be healed of blindness. Those are the facts but the truth is what really remains is what God did in the hearts of the people in Guatemala. More important than medication, people saw the love of Christ in action, many for the first time and our love was like yeast that will work itself throughout the communities. Lives were dedicated to Christ on the spot, one lady even said, “I don’t want any medicine, I just want you to pray for me.” We know spiritual eyes were healed of blindness and hearts were released from a prison of bondage and deception. Generational curses were broken and God started to rebuild lives that were shattered by hurt, unforgiveness and hatred.

God loves Guatemala, He loves the people of Magdalena and Buena Vista and He has burdened us with a love for them too. So we gladly carry that burden, all 17 of us, and continue to ask God to give us wisdom in how to use what we have learned and let it affect our world. Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts, we will carry this experience with us always.
