New Orleans/ Love, Peace , and being a Light.

Michelle-New OrleansWow! This is my first missions trip and I now see why everyone says they are life-changing. It has been Amazing so far. We have such an awesome team of people who truely Love the Lord and our seeking his face. Our days have been very busy and long but so fulfilling. Tuesday was our first day of working and it was incredible.  During our morning devotional time I was able to really focus on letting the Lord speak to me & he lead me  to 2 main scriptures. 1 Peter 1:22-23 “Love one another Feverently with a Pure heart, having been born again.”  1 Peter 5:2-4 “Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly, not being lords over those entrusted to you but being examples to the flock. ” These scriptures really blew me away and fit for our trip. I prayed to God for us to be able to Love eachother and those we came in contact with and for us to be the example, the light-bearers. We accomplished this and continue to grow in this each day.

We went to United Saints which is a non-profit organization who was started to help rebuild the city of New Orleans. We were assigned our tasks for the day and all of the women got the Jackson project. This was helping a pastor in fixing up his church that was damaged in Katrina. He spoke about how he was so tired and worn out from rebuilding his mom and his house that he couldn’t do the church himself. Our job was to scrape off the paint off the buidling so we could get it ready top be primed and repainted. It was extremely feeling like 110 degrees but it was one of the most fulfilling jobs I have done. Everyone was so happy, smiling, singing, encouraging one another the whole way thru. As I looked at all of us working together to help this pastor w/ his church I was filled with so much love and joy. You could see everyones heart shining so bright. The men worked on another project moving stuff and helping put up siding. They too were working eagerly with joy and love.

I have much more to share about what we have done, seen and felt but just wanted to share alittle bit this morning before we headed out for the day. The peace we have here with the team is so wonderful. Everyone is on the same page in unity to help in any way we can rebuild this city which is so broken and hurting right now. I am so grateful and blessed to be a part of the body of Christ rising up to help here. Whoooohoooooo  God is here moving in full force and using each and everyone of us for his kingdoms’ cause!

God Bless

Michelle

  1. Girlie I miss you and love hearing what you guys are doing!! I wish I was there with my camera but hopefully you all are taking great pics.

Also, I am leading the assembly at my group next Monday and we are focusing on spiritual warfare. Just wanted to let you know that I sent out an email to everyone asking them to pray for your mission trip. You have a team of about 30 people fervently praying for you guys!!

Also wanted to ask for you guys to pray for one of our high school students, Cory Kilgannon, who is on a mission trip to Cambodia. Him and his team have been exposed to the swine flu and are currently in quarantine. Please please keep him, his team and his family in your prayers while you guys are up there.

I love you and can’t wait to read more! xoxo
