Greece Missions Team – Hope in a Brothel

Today 5 of us visited the brothels in downtown Athens. We teamed up with a ministry called Nea Zoi to go into the brothel and bring the girls and Madams a bookmark with Romans 8:38. “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Only one other person would go into the brothel with the leader to shine Christ’s light and give the gift. I didn’t know what to expect, but walking into the room and seeing the girl, changed my perception. When the girls would see the leader from Nea Zoi, they would immediately shine a warm smile because these people from the ministry visit the brothels 3 times a week and have built a relationship. Seeing the girls smile showed me that there is hope in their heart and they have not shut out the world completely. It is going to take people like Nea Zoi to continue the relationship and break through the strongholds that are keeping those girls under that exploitation. For these girls to know that there is more to life than a dark room in an ally is so important and it felt awesome helping that happen today. I know that with the power of Jesus and with the hope in the girl’s  heart, a change can happen.

These girls in the brothel are all God’s children, He knows their name and all about them. It’s comforting to know that there are people who care enough about these girls to go into this dark, sad place to shed light into the darkness. I know that eventually something will happen where these girls find Jesus, are equipped with strength and walk away from the brothels. God is good and He does not leave people suffering, especially these beautiful girls. So this is how I found hope in the brothel today, the girl’s smile and the kindness of a couple people to shed Christ’s light.

  1. Wow. That story touches my heart. God loves them so much! I am so glad that there are people there to show God’s love to them! Praise the Lord. May there be more that go. Charna- keep up the great work! I’m stoked that you are in the place that you want to be right now. (If you could go anywhere in the world)
